Peppermill Resort Spa and Casino Announces Energy Star Certification

RENO, Nev. (January 14, 2020) – Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno, NV, is pleased to announce that the company has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR® 2018 certification for superior energy performance.

“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment, “ said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”

Mark Hauenstein, president of national green engineering consulting firm, Technical Designs, said, “The Peppermill’s energy efficiency efforts have resulted in an Energy Star score of 90 and places this facility in the top 10% of performers within the hotel category. This major accomplishment was the result of three main factors: A commitment to invest in geothermal direct use heating, a focus on managing energy usage for each area within the facility, and ongoing efforts to pursue energy efficient upgrades.”

On average, ENERGY STAR certified buildings and plants use 35 percent less energy, cause 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and are less expensive to operate than their peers—all without sacrifices in performance or comfort.

“We’re honored to earn the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance and appreciate the efforts of everyone who has been involved in its efficient operation,” said Stephen Ascuaga, Corporate Director of Business Development with Peppermill Resorts. “Saving energy is just one of the ways we show our community we care, and that we’re committed to doing our part to protect the environment and public health, both today and for future generations.”

The Peppermill Resort participates under the “ReEnergize Reno” initiative, and is committed as a community leader to help the City of Reno reach its 2025 goal to improve the efficiency of commercial, industrial, and multifamily buildings by 20% and reduce climate pollution. The Peppermill received the Leadership Award at the City’s Second Annual Green Building Awards in May 2019. “The Peppermill has been an active participant in the City’s efforts to address energy use in commercial buildings and we are grateful for their continued support,” said City Energy Advisor, Suzanne Linfante.

To date, tens of thousands of buildings and plants across all fifty states have earned the ENERGY STAR. For more information about ENERGY STAR for Buildings and Plants, visit www.energystar.gov/buildings
