3 Way 6 | 57 Tens | 190 Way 8 | Keno Kelly's Advice

3 Way 6

Each of the three sixes contained in our THREE-WAY SIX can be found by combining the three colors together in every possible combination . The first SIX will be : RED plus BLUE ( the numbers 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 and 6) . The second SIX will be : RED plus YELLOW ( the numbers 1 , 2 , 3 , 7, 8 and 9 ) . The third SIX will be : BLUE plus YELLOW ( the numbers 4, 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 and 9 ) . Checking this ticket for a win is not difficult if you understand how the ways work . So , now we rush to the nearest keno counter to place our bet . We bet one dollar per way on our ticket and the total price is $ 3.00 . The winning numbers light-up on the keno board moments later , showing our winning numbers as ; ..1..3..4..5..6..9.. . The winning numbers that appear within the numbers marked on a ticket is called the " catch " .

Our first group " RED " ( the numbers 1 , 2 and 3 ) has a catch of 2 .
Our second group " BLUE " ( the numbers 4 , 5 and 6 ) has a catch of 3 .
Our third group " YELLOW " ( the numbers 7 , 8 and 9 ) has a catch of 1.
The first SIX ( RED + BLUE ) = one 5 out of six .
The second SIX ( RED + YELLOW ) = one 3 out of six .
The third SIX ( BLUE + YELLOW ) = one 4 out of six .
Now we look in the keno booklet for the amount paid on ; one 5 out of six + one 3 out of six + one 4 out of six and we have the total win of our colorful three way six .

57 Tens

Prior to computers on the keno games, off duty keno writers would pool their funds and play this ticket at a nearby casino just to watch those employees sweat. The ticket is played by marking three groups of three, three groups of two and three kings.
When checking the "Heinz 57", the first step is to locate the 57 tens. List each group of the ticket at the top of a blank piece of paper, like this: GROUPS = 3 - 3 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1

Ask yourself, how can I make a ten using the largest groups first. The first combination that makes 10 is: 3 + 3 + 3 + 1 = ten spots

This is the only way to make ten using ALL THREE of the groups of three, so next, find all the ways to make ten using TWO groups of three:
3 + 3 + 2 + 2 = ten spots
3 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 = ten spots

Find all the ways to make a ten using ONE group of three.
3 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = ten spots
3 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = ten spots
With ZERO groups of three there are only nine spots left on the ticket ( 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 9 ), so we have located all the combinations that make ten. Next, go back thru each combination calculating how many ways are present.
GROUPS = 3 - 3 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1
3 - 3 - 3 - 1 = 3 ways to make ten
3 - 3 - 2 - 2 = 9 ways to make ten
3 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 1 = 27 ways to make ten
3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 1 = 9 ways to make ten
3 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 = 9 ways to make ten
total = 57 ways to make ten

The easy part is now done. We have determined that this is a 57 way ten. The more difficult step is figuring a winning catch. I'll show you one example.

After the winning numbers are called mark the catch of each group under your listing of the groups, like so:
GROUPS = 3 - 3 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1
catch = 3 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 0 - 1 - 0 - 0

Find each of the tens on the top line and add together the catches below.
The first combination (3 + 3 + 3 + 1) yields one seven out of ten and two six out of tens.
A - B - C X - Y - Z
GROUPS = 3 - 3 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1
catch = 3 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 0 - 1 - 0 - 0
The first ten is A + B + C + X = 7.
The second ten is A + B + C + Y = 6.
The third ten is A + B + C + Z = 6.
I did the first three ways for you ...... you can do the other 54.
The final results ( all 57 ways ) of the sample catch are:
3 - 8 out of tens
15 - 5 out of tens
10 - 7 out of tens
9 - 4 out of tens
18 - 6 out of tens
2 - 3 out of tens

190 Way 8

A guest writes...
What is a 190 way eight ? I've heard it is quite popular among high rollers.

Signed , Mary

Dear Mary,
Because a lot of casinos take it at 10 cents per way, it is, I am sure, the most popular way ticket of 100 ways or more.
The first nickname I heard for the ticket was "the Benny Goodman Ticket". I have been told that Redd Foxx and Merle Haggard have played this ticket. I have seen Bill Cosby play this ticket.

Since it takes twenty groups of four to make a 190 way eight you are playing all eighty numbers on the board (more accurately you are betting on the pattern of the call ). There are a multitude of different ways to separate the eighty numbers on a blank Keno ticket into twenty groups of four.

The most common way is to make numbers 1 , 11 , 21 , 31 the first group , numbers 2 , 12 , 22 , 32 the second group etc., etc.
Catching a group of four with a group of three anywhere on the board will get you a seven out of eight. I did see a player, in one eight hour period, hit two solid eights playing this exact ticket!

The 190 way eight may be played for 10 cents per way! At our "TEN CENT" rate hitting a solid eight pays $14,444!!!

Signed,
